While the FAA approaches the deadline for releasing new regulations for the country’s metastasizing drone activities, the counterterrorism community is increasingly concerned about the possible use of drones for terrorist attacks. Crude train incidents often result in fires and explosions. However, in some cases, responders may arrive on scene to find a substantial spill, but no fire. When just a single tank car derails and breaches, as much as 30,000 gallons can be spilled, presenting fire and toxicity hazards as well as danger for the environment.
